The Meta Quest 3 Open Facial Interface is a first-party interface with open sides for mixed-reality use. It preserves more peripheral awareness of the physical room and increases airflow, but it also admits ambient light. It is made for Quest 3—not Quest 3S—and is a poor choice when visual isolation is the goal.

Good fit
- Quest 3 owners focused on mixed-reality apps
- People wanting more room awareness and side airflow
- Shared or social demonstrations where isolation is undesirable
Who should skip it
- Quest 3S owners
- Players wanting maximum light blocking
- Users relying on the interface as eye protection
What it does—and does not do
The open sides let the wearer see more of the physical room at the periphery while Quest 3 displays passthrough through its screens. This does not turn passthrough into direct optical AR: the central view remains camera-fed mixed reality. Increased airflow may reduce heat buildup, but fogging and comfort outcomes depend on conditions and fit.
Open visibility can help orientation, but it does not replace Guardian/boundary setup or safe room preparation. The accessory is not protective eyewear.
Compatibility and setup
This model is for Meta Quest 3. Quest 3S has different facial geometry, so a generic “Quest 3 family” label is insufficient. Remove the existing interface using Meta’s instructions, press the open interface evenly into place, and confirm all clips are secure before wearing.
For headset differences, read our Quest 3 vs Quest 3S comparison and Quest 3 review. The mixed-reality guide explains how passthrough MR differs from optical see-through AR.
Pros
- More peripheral room awareness
- Increased open airflow
- First-party Quest 3 fit
Cons
- Ambient light reduces visual isolation
- Quest 3 only
- Not a substitute for boundaries or eye protection
Alternatives and bottom line
Meta’s silicone interface is a closed, wipeable alternative for Quest 3. The stock interface better suits conventional VR isolation. The Open Facial Interface has a clear role in mixed reality, provided the buyer actively wants open sides. Verify the exact model on the current listing.
