Meta Quest is Meta’s family of standalone VR and mixed-reality headsets. What “standalone” means
Quest headsets contain their own processor, storage, tracking cameras, display, audio, and operating system. They can install supported applications from the Meta Horizon Store without a console or gaming PC. Head and controller tracking cover six degrees of freedom, so movement through a play space can affect the virtual view.
Standalone does not mean every application works on every Quest. Standalone VR, mixed reality, and PC VR
Quest 3 and 3S use color stereoscopic passthrough to combine rendered content with a view of the room. Quest 3’s depth sensor gives it additional environment-sensing hardware; Quest 3S handles room setup without that sensor. Passthrough remains a camera feed, not transparent glass.
Supported Quest headsets can also stream compatible PC VR software through Meta Quest Link on Windows, using a suitable USB cable or Air Link network. Accounts, privacy, and safety
Quest access uses a Meta account and Meta Horizon profile. A Facebook account has not been mandatory since Meta introduced the separate account system in 2022. Current account controls and minimum-age requirements should be checked directly because the service continues to evolve.

Existing Quest 2 owners do not need to replace a working headset solely because of a name change. Upgrade when application support, optics, mixed reality, hardware condition, or comfort provides a concrete reason.
